Abstract
This study is an analytic review to reveal the factors influencing the post-operative prognosis of 249 patients with abdominal trauma who had been operated on at the Department of General Surgery, Kyungpook National University Hospital from January 1981 to December 1985.
The results were as follows:
1. The peak age incidence of abdominal trauma was between 3rd and 5th decade but there was no significant relation between age and morbidity or mortality.
2. The train accident and the gunshot injury cases had complications without exception.
3. The distance from the hospital influenced the morbidity rate adversely.
4. The amount of transfused blood influenced morbidity rate adversely.
5. Even though was there no associated injury, the diaphragmatic or duodenal injury revealed 100% of morbidity rate.
6. The mean blood pressure on arrival at the emergency room influenced the morbidity and mortality significantly.
7. The multiple organ injury revealed higher morbidity and mortality than the single organ injury.
